Susanna Farms in Lake Villa is just a short drive off I-94 and offers a wonderful family farm experience! You can take hayrides through the woods, find your way through corn mazes (they have one for little kids and another for bigger ones), totem pole painting, face painting, pumpkins, farm animals and a great snack shack including Diane's famous chocolate chip cookies.
The farm is owned and operated by The Heffernan Family and has been a family farm since the 1930's. It's a working farm and the website even mentions that "Uncle John grows the corn and the Heffernan grandchildren design the mazes for all to explore and enjoy." What a wonderful place to teach your children about how our main crops like soybeans, corn and other vegetables grow! If you want to experience the country close to home it's a great spot to take your kids. They are open daily from 10am to 6pm from September 17 through October 30.
